Bracelet design in CAD: flexibility, links and clasps

By Ronak Rawal · 1 October 2026 · 2 min read

A bracelet moves with the wrist all day, so it needs to flex smoothly, fasten securely and sit comfortably. This makes it more complex than a ring.

Links and flexibility

The links must be built with clearance, so they can move without binding. If the links are too tight, the bracelet becomes stiff. If they are too loose, it may rattle or stretch. CAD allows a full assembly to be checked for movement.

Clasps

  • Box clasp: clicks into place, often with a safety latch. Common on tennis bracelets.
  • Lobster clasp: a spring-loaded hook, simple and secure.
  • Toggle clasp: a bar goes through a ring, which suits chunkier designs.

Size and fit

Bracelet lengths are often around 16 to 19 cm, but this varies. Ask for the wrist measurement and how loosely the bracelet should sit. The clasp length must be counted in the total.

Stones

For stones set along a bracelet, the setting must hold them securely while the links flex. Consider channel or pavé settings.

In CAD

Bracelets are priced higher than rings in our rates, since they involve more parts. A clear brief saves time, see the brief template.

Frequently asked questions

What length should a bracelet be?

It depends on the wrist and the style. Ask for the wrist measurement and add room for the clasp and comfort.

Do bracelets need safety catches?

Many do, especially valuable ones. A safety latch on the clasp helps prevent loss.
