Bangle design: oval vs round, hinged vs solid
A bangle has to pass over the hand, and then fit the wrist. This makes sizing the most important decision.
Round bangle
A simple circle. It must be large enough to pass over the widest part of the hand, so it often sits loose on the wrist.
Oval bangle
An oval follows the shape of the hand and wrist, so it passes over the hand in one direction and sits closer on the wrist. It often feels more comfortable.
Hinged bangle
It opens on a hinge and closes with a clasp. It can fit closer to the wrist, but it needs a strong hinge and a safe catch.
Solid bangle
A single piece, with no moving parts. It is strong and simple, but it cannot be adjusted.
Sizing
Bangle sizes are often given as the inner diameter, commonly in the range of about 2.2 to 2.8 inches, and they vary between regions. Confirm the size in millimetres with your designer.
Weight and thickness
Bangles can use a lot of metal. Hollow sections reduce weight, but they need careful modelling and a caster who can handle them. See the casting checklist.
Frequently asked questions
Which bangle is easier to wear?
An oval or hinged bangle is often easier to put on and feels more secure.
Can a bangle be made lighter?
Yes, by using hollow sections or a thinner profile. Discuss this with your caster before modelling.
