Jewellery product images for e-commerce: size, format and background
Good jewellery images are sharp, consistent and fast to load. These practical points help your listings look professional.
Image size
Large enough to zoom, but not so large that pages load slowly. A common range is around 1500 to 2000 px on the long side. Our KeyShot renders are delivered at 2000 px, and our AI renders at 1500 or 1200 px.
Background
- A plain white or neutral background keeps attention on the piece.
- Transparent PNG files let you place the piece on any colour.
- Use the same background across the whole catalogue, so it looks consistent.
File formats
- PNG keeps transparency and sharp edges.
- JPEG makes smaller files for photographic backgrounds.
- WebP is smaller still, and is supported by most browsers.
Consistency
Use the same angles, lighting and size for every product. Renders make this easy, since each piece is rendered under the same setup. See the render angles guide.
Names and text
Give files clear names, such as ring-style-102-rose-gold-front.png, and add descriptive alt text on your site. This helps both accessibility and search.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use JPEG or PNG for jewellery?
Use PNG when you need transparency or very clean edges, and JPEG or WebP when file size matters more.
Do large images slow my site?
They can. Resize images to the size your page needs, and use modern formats.
