Custom jewellery workflow: from sketch to finished piece
Custom jewellery moves through several stages, and different people handle each one. Knowing the order helps you plan, and helps you know when changes are cheap and when they are not.
- Idea and brief. You share a sketch or references, with the metal, stones and size. See how to write a brief.
- CAD model. A designer builds the 3D model.
- Render and review. You see realistic images and a 360° view, and give feedback.
- Revisions and approval. Changes are easiest here, before anything is made.
- Production file. The final model is exported for printing and casting.
- Printing and casting. The model is printed, then cast in metal.
- Setting and finishing. Stones are set, and the piece is polished, plated and inspected.
Where changes are cheapest
A change at the render stage costs a few minutes of CAD time. After casting, the same change can mean a new casting. That is why it pays to review the render carefully.
Where we fit in
We handle the CAD model, renders, 360° views and animation, and deliver casting-ready files. You, or your manufacturer, handle casting and setting.
Frequently asked questions
Can I skip the render stage?
You can, but it is the cheapest place to catch a problem, so most clients review at least one render.
Who does the casting?
Your caster or manufacturer. We deliver the files that they need.
